familiars for exorcists are demons that can be summoned with special paper. theyre used to fight for an exorcist, and usually sent back right after. basically you have to have a contract with them in order to have any real luck getting them to work for you

a lot of exorcists do become good friends with their familiars tho

kuro didnt even need summoning paper, since he was a protective spirit for a shrine first before being a familiar
